Overview

In Architectural terms, foil are leaf shaped indents. They are usually found in tracery of Gothic windows and come in several different shapes. The term comes from the Latin word folium which means leaf.[1]


Trefoil

Foil with three lobed leaves.



Quatrefoill

Foil with four lobed leaves.

Cinquefoil

Foil with five lobed leaves.
